Christian Stone, Founder

“A contemporary designer should have the innate ability to create visually striking artwork that captures the viewers’ attention. It should be wearable, marketable, simple, attractive and creative. A true designer can translate bold ideas into elegant, simple, recognisable designs.”

A 2017 graduate of Central Saint Martins of Arts and Design, Christian has an impressive background in the fashion industry. He honed his skills at Christian Dior Couture in Paris and Hood By Air in New York, where his graduate collection gained recognition on the Central Saint Martins’ press runway, and earned him the VFiles 'Runway 9' Designer Award. Christian then made his debut at New York Fashion Week with support from VFiles, and his collection was bought by luxury department store H-Lorenzo in Los Angeles. Encouraged, he returned to Hong Kong in 2018 to establish his own brand, Christian Stone.

Christian initially hoped to pursue a career in toy design before discovering his passion for the fashion industry, and he infuses his work with a playful, fantastical spirit. One of his most recognisable creations, the Christian Stone Signature Backpack Boots, introduced in 2018, was inspired by Brooklyn's street culture, and combined backpack functionality with wearable footwear, featuring unusual elements such as a front zip pocket, adjustable elastic accents, side zips, a detachable embroidered pouch, and luxurious leather lining. They gained viral attention on social media, and were worn by celebrities, and picked up by major retailers like Browns and H-Lorenzo. Christian's AW21 collection, Painstation, launched during Shanghai Fashion Week, depicted the hardships he faced during the pandemic. With a focus on sustainability, the collection incorporated "imperfect materials" such as melted nylon and torn silk stockings, adding a disparate and unconventional element to the designs.

Having worked in New York, London, and Paris, Christian believes that experience in Mainland China is crucial, and intends to go to Shanghai to deepen his understanding of the luxury market, expand his network, and refine his skills in exhibition curation and event production.
