“It's the experiences within a space that matter, and that truly inspire me as a designer rather than the architecture itself.”
Vincent, a recent graduate of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Bachelor Degree of Environment and Interior Design program, received international acclaim in the Architizer Vision Awards 2023 and LOOP Design Awards 2023, recognised for his accomplishments, distinctive vision and innovative design concepts .
His Final Year Project, "Transcultural Journey on the Orient Express," comes from his exchange experiences, and imagines a journey aboard the Orient Express, connecting cultures between cities, showing the power of transcultural experiences and a vibrant blend of continually evolving cultural emotions. Vincent started out by mapping cities, towns, landscapes, and borders, studying the cultural essence of each country. He then introduced a modular system that packages cultural resources in interchangeable forms, and through conveyor-belt-inspired mechanisms or existing transportation structures, these resources, including objects and programs, are transported in and out of the train, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in an experience-driven cultural world. The project illuminates the joy of experiencing, and at the same time contemplating, the role of architecture in our lives. The final deliverables include a timetable of the journey, and a drawing that shows a voyage from Paris to Istanbul, and how transcultural experiences empower people, and interweave cultural expressions to create a dynamic and ever-evolving tapestry of new cultures.
Vincent wishes to be a spatial designer, crafting physical spaces while nurturing the growth of individuals, communities, and cultures. He plans to study in Italy and Finland, both known for their progressive spatial design concepts and socially driven philosophies.
