Head of Design, NILMANCE
"As a designer, it's essential to cultivate your own design language. You shouldn’t be afraid to consistently showcase your aesthetic, until people instinctively associate that style with you at first glance."
Jeremy graduated from Central Saint Martins in the UK, where he majored in womenswear design. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he pursued further studies at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, earning a Master’s degree in Fashion and Textiles in 2019. Since then, he has taken on the role of chief designer for Nilmance, a menswear brand that emphasises functional design.
Though originally trained in womenswear, Jeremy has always placed a strong focus on functionality in his designs. He believes that the fluid nature of gender identity today allows functional design to transcend traditional gender boundaries. His functional style is often inspired by the practicalities of daily life, while he draws emotional inspiration from contemporary art. The growing international recognition of Nilmance has provided Jeremy with the opportunity to present his work at both Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks. In addition to his seasonal collections, he frequently engages in collaborations with other brands.
Jeremy’s 2024 Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter collections are his proudest achievements to date. Early in his career, he felt the pressure to follow market trends, but he has since established his own distinct design language. He believes that staying true to one’s vision and maintaining consistency are key to success. His Fall/Winter 2024 collection, in particular, tells a poignant story about confronting the unknown on life’s final journey, conveyed through a distant and emotionally charged design. The inspiration for this collection came from a powerful experience at an art gallery, where Jeremy encountered a painting of an artist bedridden and unable to paint outdoors, overwhelmed by despair. This reflection led him to imagine what a person might pack and wear for their final adventure. The resulting designs are both deeply emotional and aligned with Nilmance’s signature focus on functionality.
During his studies in London, Jeremy completed an internship at a European fashion company, which provided him with valuable insights into how European brands balance commercial demands with creative design. After years of professional experience in Hong Kong, Jeremy now hopes to return to Europe to gain a deeper understanding of how large European fashion houses operate.
