Tam Carolyn
Spatial Design | Architectural Designer
Carolyn Tam is a multidisciplinary designer working across architecture, art, and material exploration. She earned her Master of Architecture from MIT in 2022 following a background in Innovation Design Engineering, an interdisciplinary foundation that allows her to approach spatial design unbound by conventional formulas. For Carolyn, creative ideas emerge at intersections where spatial boundaries are challenged through shifting lenses.
Central to her work is the dialogue between architecture and material, approaching material exploration as alchemy to transform physical substances into sensorial spatial experiences. Her MIT thesis won the Marvin E. Goody Award for material innovation and building technology. Beyond academia, Carolyn has spoken at events by Swire Properties and the Hong Kong Designers Association.
In Hong Kong, Carolyn grounded her conceptual thinking into built reality at LAAB Architects and Shadow Design. Looking ahead, she aims to leverage upcoming overseas opportunities to absorb new design strategies and translate experimentation into built forms that move beyond convention toward expressive materiality.
