"Fashion can be exhibited in museums like art, but it is distinct from art. For a fashion designer, the best way to showcase their work is to see it worn by someone on the street, bringing the design to life."

Trev, the 2024 champion of the Hong Kong Sustainable Fur Design Competition, recently graduated with a Higher Diploma in Fashion Design from the Hong Kong Design Institute. His design inspiration often arises from curiosity about certain problems or concepts, and he views fashion as a medium for storytelling—a way to capture and express life’s emotions in a specific moment. It’s no surprise that his design style constantly evolves, reflecting his personal journey and experiences. Trev firmly believes that fashion designers must communicate their own perspectives through their work, creating pieces that resonate on a deeper, emotional level with those who wear them.

Trev's graduation project, Nothing Lasts Forever, was inspired by his reflections on the transient nature of life. Each piece in the collection was constructed with sculptural techniques, representing his exploration of whether fashion can transcend into the realm of art. In his work, he strives to balance artistic expression with practicality, with the long-term goal of launching his own fashion brand.

Passionate about art and driven to encourage collaboration among creators across different disciplines in Hong Kong, Trev aims to continue his fashion studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. He hopes to explore how this smaller city, both in size and population compared to Hong Kong, has nurtured a thriving cultural scene, establishing itself as one of the world’s most influential design hubs.
