Dr. Lay Lian ONG is the Principal of the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee) of Vocational Training Council (VTC), which is the leading vocational and professional education and training (VPET) statutory body in Hong Kong.
She has extensive experience in VPET with disciplinary expertise in the creative industries and in educational leadership and management. She is committed to promoting skills excellence and youth development, forging strategic partnership with industry and international organisations. Under her leadership, the institution has expanded its global network with overseas universities and industry partners which provide a wide range of learning opportunities for the students.
Prior to her current position, she has taken up a number of senior roles in the VTC, including playing a key role in formulating VTC’s strategic plan, as the Academic Director of IT Discipline, and on secondment to The Education Bureau where her work has contributed to the Task Force on Promotion of Vocational Education in Hong Kong. In 2015, she was selected for “Outstanding ICT Women Award” by the Hong Kong Computer Society in recognition of her dedication and commitment in the Industry, particularly in the development and nurturing of IT professionals in Hong Kong as she works with the VTC.
