Winners
CreateSmart Young Design Talent Special Award 2021
Audrey Yick

Communication Design | Graduate of PolyU SPEED (Applied and Media Arts)

Communication Designer

After completing her secondary school education in Hong Kong, Audrey pursued her passion for words and world-building to England, where she studied English Literature at the University of Warwick for three years, graduating in 2017 and returning to Hong Kong to work at a multinational public relations firm.

At the firm she saw how brand building was the commercial middle ground between business and creative storytelling — an exciting narrative-based and visual world she wanted to be part of. She left after a year to freelance on logo design, video, and photography projects.

In 2019, seeking critique and community, she enrolled on a local art and design degree programme. She graduated in 2021 with first class honours, and with recognitions such as the 2021 Top Student Award, and the 2020/21 Outstanding Performance Scholarship (OPS) which was awarded by the Hong Kong SAR Government. The same year, she was also recognised as a design talent under the 2021 DFA Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award, and received financial sponsorship to experience working abroad.

Whilst on her overseas placement, Audrey spends her time outside of work hours expanding her visual vocabulary by studying the past, and by experimenting with new ways of working with typography.
